Dominique (Dom) Salice is a visionary leader with a track record of building coalitions across the country. As a leader at some of the country's most prominent organizations, Dom hired and oversaw firms to do the very work Groundswell now practices. As a former client, she's passionate about building a better model for our industry.
Why Dom is so passionate -- in her own words:
I’ve spent nearly two decades building and leading high-impact voter engagement programs across labor, advocacy, and electoral landscapes. Along the way, I’ve had the chance to serve in senior roles at some of the most influential organizations in the progressive space, including the NEA, AFL-CIO, Human Rights Campaign, Sierra Club (IL), and SEIU (WI).
Over the years, I’ve worked on everything from scrappy grassroots campaigns to large-scale nationally coordinated operations. I’ve led programs focused on electoral wins, policy fights, union organizing, and community power building. No matter the size or focus, my approach has always been the same: center leadership development, build capacity, and think long-term.
Heading into the 2024 cycle, I stepped into the role of Vice President at one of the country’s leading outreach firms, overseeing multi-state voter registration and contact programs that reached millions. That experience sparked my vision for how to change paid outreach. I wanted to build a firm rooted in movement values, one that rejects the volume-first model and instead offers a more boutique, partner-driven approach.
This work isn’t just a numbers game, it’s personal. I lost my mom to cancer while I was in college, and the chaos of navigating our broken healthcare system, along with the debt it left behind, made me angry and determined to create change. I started canvassing to flip my home state senate district in New York, and we won back a seat Democrats hadn’t held in 35 years. From there, I learned the ropes while facing the harsh realities of a political system that often chews up and burns through young staffers. I knew one day I’d be able to do things differently, and that’s what Groundswell is about: doing the best work, with the best people, investing in staff and the communities we serve so the wins we fight for actually last.
When I’m not conspiring to build democracy, you’ll find me exploring parks with my husband Mitchell and our dog Ruby or deep in a sci-fi novel and my super power is cooking – nothing builds comfort and community like good food! We’ve lived all over the country and getting to know different cities, learning the neighborhoods and the people has been one of the best parts of life in politics. It has given me great appreciation for the uniqueness of every state, district and street.
